Peter and I went back in the studio to record this new version of "Be Still My Heart" for his new release, The Mighty Storm.
It's been a while since I've updated, so here are some highlights of 2013:
I spent a good part of the year producing records for some fantastic artists.
Amy Black, This is Home. Amy Black is a wonderfully soulful writer and singer. We recorded this at RCA Studio A as well, my favorite space in Nashville. We also went down to Muscle Shoals, AL to record an EP at FAME Studios. Spooner Oldham, Will Kimbrough and Paul Griffith joined us.
Robby Hecht, self-titled. Robby and I have recorded three records together - I love his laid-back writing and singing. Dare I say, this one's my favorite. It was recorded here in Nashville at both Middletree Studio and Toy Box Studio and will be out in the Spring.
The Westies are a new group revolving around Michael Mcdermott and Heather Horton. These guys are incredible together and Michael is a lyrical powerhouse. We recorded this at Middletree as well (Joe Pisapia's place).
Anders Elfstrom is another artist to check out. This is a video from the first record that we recorded together back in 2009. Anders came back to Nashville from Stockholm a second time to record another record, and it's crazy good. Spring time release for this as well. Recorded at The Toy Box by Lij Shaw.
When I wasn't producing I got to play on some great records. Here's a few:
Bruce Robison and Kelly Willis, Cheater's Game. I played bass on this record, which was nominated for Album of the Year by the Americana Music Association. It's always a pleasure working with producer Brad Jones.
Mindy Smith recorded a new holiday record, Snowed In. She's one of the best. I played mandola, bouzouki and tenor guitar. Produced by Mindy and Steve Buckingham.
Rod Picott, Hang Your Hopes On A Crooked Nail. Beautiful new release from Rod. I played bouzouki, mandolin, tenor guitar and various other stringy things. Produced by the great RS Field.
Steve Moakler, Wide Open. One of the best young writers and singers I've heard. I played bass. Produced by Mike Wrucke.
New band, Sundy Best has an upcoming release called Bring Up The Sun. I played bass, bouzouki, banjo and mandolin. Also produced by RS Field.
Caitlin Rose, The Stand-In. What's not to like? This was a fun record to be part of. I played acoustic guitar.
Here's the title track to the forthcoming Peter Bradley Adams record. The footage is from the recording sessions at historic RCA Studio A in Nashville. I worked as co-producer, bassist and played acoustic guitar on this track. This was one of my favorite collaborations of the year. Hope you enjoy.
I mixed and made some noise on this. These two have some magic going on for sure.
Mindy has just released a beautiful new holiday ep. I played mandola and tenor guitar. Here's the title track.
